She is THE ROCK STAR of modern rock. Not that her latest album should really be considered Rock (is modern rock even a term that people use any more?). But this woman just exudes everything you want out of a performer. I believe she is touring in October, so go why don't you! This weekend was the Sunset Junction Festival. A street fair in my neighborhood that caters to anyone and everyone who might call themselves Eccentric. X played, and although i was pretty far away, they seem to rock pretty hard. Well, not much in the writing mood today so i'll check back with yall soon. 08 09 04 1:47 p.m. Community: Many who live in the Silverlake area have inevitably witnessed the menacing little shack on the corner of Glendale and Rowena called the Auto Bar. The Auto Bar has over the years held its mythological status of "The Bar that Everyone Wonders About, But No One Will Enter. A group of friends of mine have it listed at the top of our places to visit on our Danger Night. Danger Night is a proposed evening focused on visiting various places in Los Angeles that, up until now, we have been to afraid to enter. Anyway, although the myth behind the Autobar may remain, the place itself does not. In the last year, the property was bought and is now being renovated into something very not Autobar-ish. Despite the sadness i feel for one of the last relics of Seedy Silverlake, one good thing has become of its demise. Upon removing the boards of plywood that have shielded the Autobar from the rest of the world an incredible fossil of times gone by has been revealed. On the far left window is a primitive painting that seems to suggest the Autobars previous life as some sort of Go-Go or Strip Venue. The painting is of two women in skimpy outfits dancing at either end of the word Entertainment. Entertainment indeed. Both women have been titled with words of there own, that hover above their heads. The one on the left, in a white mini-skirt, is titled WATUSI. The girl on the right is titled BIKINI'S. This sign, and many others like it is what makes Los Angeles spectacular. I have taken a few pictures of the sign in fears that no one will have the drive to save the sign. I have a few ideas of how to appropriate the images and keep them alive, since i can't save the Auto Bar. I'll try and post of few of the images on the site soon and keep you updated to any new news about the sign, or my projects associated with said sign. 08 02 04 8:39 a.m. Culture:This blog thing is kinda like the few times i DJ'd at the now defunct KBLT. You do it, hoping some people will stumble upon it and they'll tell two friends, and suddenly you've got a bunch of shampooing motherfuckers listening to every word you have to say. Well, who's gonna listen to a station of static, let alone a web page of emptiness. So my apologies to all those nonexistent fans out there. i'll try and do better. There certainly isn't any reason for me not to be blabbing about all the sh*t i've been doing lately. Since i've started dating my honey, every weekend seems to be filled with some sort of new experience. So a quick run down of the few things that come to mind. Last weekend, Jennies friend held her birthday celebration at this roller rink on San Fernando rd. in Glendale (i'll update this with the name as soon as i track it down). So i'm a big wimp when it comes to skating, but let me just tell you something. On sundays this roller rink (if the nostalgia of it all isn't enough for you to seek it out) plays host to a group of middle aged african americans who have been skating there every week for quite a while. Some of them are damn good, and the best part is that they have their own DJ who plays some smoking R&B. Not your standard over played oldies, but some really great stuff! They are pretty strict about keeping it All About the Skating though, so if you go be prepared to Strap Em On. Many of you may already have heard, but if you haven't, Los Feliz blvd at the entrance of Glendale is slowly becoming quite the spot. After an evening of Ogling Rockabilly hipsters at the BigFoot lounge, or on a morning before or after your trip to Price Club/Best Buy, stop by Mini Melt for a gander at the latest in nipper apparel or metro-male "graphic periodicals" (no, not porn idiot, commix). after picking up the latest 8-ball or Giant Robot, you owe it to yourself to hop across the street to the new (fairly) India Sweets and Spices market/cafe. Yeah, this place has already gotten written up but hasn't received the flood of people it deserves so get in while you still can. The cafe section rules, and there is no better way to abuse you stomach and pamper your wallet then with a 4dollar spicy vegetarian lunch. As for the market, the products are great, but the people who work there don't seem too happy to cater to people of my pasty skin tone. For god sakes its Glendale! Last time went, they had taken out the Video rental section that i was really looking forward to checking out. 06 08 04 1:56 a.m. Culture:OK, so i've really let this thing go, well, up until a few weeks ago i had good reason. I had work for a change. It felt good, and i made some cash. I also spent alot of it. Go figure, 34 and i can't manage money. Well anyway, i'll try and catch you all up as much as i can. Stay tuned!
